VOCAL ARTISTS

CHARMAINE CARRASCO (BIO EXCERPT)

  • Charmaine is an artist/song writer living in Nashville, TN

  • Charmaine was born in 1984, in West Covina, CA.  Although her parents are from Sydney, Australia, she was born in the USA because at the time they were on tour with their Music Ministry. A vocal band known for their exceptional harmonies and clever arrangements that had become  very well known all over the South Pacific.  Charmaine has been all her life on the road and travelled since birth with her parents in this ministry.  She is truly a 'child' of the road.  This has meant that, music ministry is nothing new for her and adding to the fact that Jesus has been the primary factor to her life, being on the road as a music artist has been where she is most at home

JONATHAN THULIN (BIO EXCERPT)

  • Jonathan Thulin is an artist/songwriter based out of Minneapolis, MN

Also a 'child of the road', Jonathan was involved in music ministry from an early age.  He was featured heavily in 6 albums produced by his family from ages 6 to 13.

  • He has also produced a number of music videos featuring his own performances, all of which have been highly praised by those in the industry.

  • Jonathan is currently pursuing what he loves and pushing hard to break the boundaries of a typical "Christian" artist

While Charmaine and Jonathan Thulin are our main performers for the evening, we have a few excellent local performers joining us for the evening.

LOREN KIM - PIANO SOLO

Loren Kim attends Canyon Rim Elementary in Anaheim Hills and is in the 4th grade. He started playing piano when he was 5 years old. He seemed to understand music theory quickly and started composing short pieces when he was 7. He is now 9 years old and studies piano with Dr. Heewon Kwon at the Colburn School. He has been invited to play at several recitals the past few years including the MTAC Honors recital, and most recently performed a Mozart Concerto with the LA Dream Orchestra at Zipper Hall in Los Angeles. Loren also plays classical guitar, sings in the church youth choir, and likes to play basketball and golf.

ELISE NEWEN - VOCAL SOLO

Elise Newen is 12 years old and is in the 7th Grade at Orangewood Academy. Elise studies classical ballet with Ms. Hanna Karacic and Ms Salwa Rizkalla, contempory ballet with Ms Lillian Barbeito, at Southland Ballet Academy, piano under Dr. Felix Tao Chang and Dr. Susan Wong, violin under Ms Deborah Kim and Christine Chen, voice under Mr. James Woods and Rachel Koons. Elise has won numerous awards in music and art competitions, including winning 2nd place in Piano Division A at the MTAC South Coast Classical and Romantic Showcases in November 2010, 1st place in Vocal Division 1 at the OCKCC Young Musician’s Competition in May 2011, 1st place with her ballet performance at her school’s 2011 talent show and 1st place in the vocal division at the 2012 Irvine Korean Festival (IKF) Talent Competition.

Between school and her various extracurricular activities, Elise also enjoys performing with her church’s drama, choir and praise groups. Elise loves to read, draw, write and experiment with clay art.

KERI LYNN ADAMS - VOCAL SOLO

I was born and raised in Southern California, and I am so grateful to be giving back to my community. It is Orange County that shaped me into the person I am today. Thanks to this supportive community I have studied classical voice for almost four years, and I will pursue a degree in both Psychology and Vocal Arts at USC’s Thornton School of Music. Thank you to all the families and friends I have known in Orange County for your endless encouragement and love. This truly is a community worth investing in, and I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to make a difference.

SYDNEY DANCI - MODERN BALLET SOLO

Sydney Danci is finishing up her sophomore year at Troy High School. Sydney has been dancing for 10 years, starting in rhythmic gymnastics. She transitioned into ballet last year, and ballet has quickly become her first love. She has been a dancer at the Youth American Grand Prix for the last 3 years through Southland Ballet Academy. Sydney loves drawing and painting, and is an avid reader. Sydney plans to attend university as a dance major.

SILVI LYBBERT - MODERN BALLET SOLO

Hi, my name is Silvi Lybbert, I am 10 years old, and I have been dancing full-time at Southland Ballet Academy for about a year and a half. I am in fifth grade at Top of the World Elementary School and am included in the school's gate program. In the past, I have played two instruments, piano and guitar, as I am currently playing flute. I think this music gave me a good start with learning how to connect to the piece I am dancing to, hear the beats, counts, and timing, and feel the moods of the character I am portraying in my classical or contemporary performance. In my first and only year, so far, of competing, I earned first place in contemporary and top twelve in classical variations. Therefore, I was invited to travel to New York for the finals which was an exceptional experience for me. This is a bit about me and a few accomplishments I have worked hard to go through with.

ANDREA THOMAS - MONOLOGUE

Andrea attends Fullerton College studying both Theater Arts and Business. She plans to pursue both A Bachelor of Fine Arts and A Masters of Fine Arts Degree. Andrea was a student in the Irvine High School’s Theatre Department for four years. During her four years she was casted as an actress in the productions of The Tempest, You Can’t Take it with you, Music Man, Frankenstein: 1930, Is He Dead?, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Bye, Bye Birdie, Rehearsal For Murder and The Boy Friend.

Andrea was also the Director of the A Piece of my Heart which was shown for the 2012 Unity Week at Irvine High School, a member of the Theatre Arts Club for four year and in her senior year served as club’s president. Andrea received the Heritage Award, the highest honor at Irvine High School and Herb Alfred Scholarship Award while attending California Summer School for the Arts. (CSSA) at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. She was honored with 2012 (MACYS)Childress Music and Arts Commendation for Youth Bright Spot Award for her performance in the production “The Boyfriend”.

BENEFITING ORGANIZATIONS

DR. RIBA'S HEALTH CLUB (WWW.DRRIBASHEALTHCLUB.ORG)

DrRHC was founded in 2002 as a pilot program of the Children and Families Commission of Orange County to help address the prevalence of obesity and related health conditions in young children. Today, DrRHC is an independent project, fiscally sponsored by OneOC, targeting low-income areas in Orange County where childhood obesity is a serious concern. With our clinic centrally located in Santa Ana, and additional offerings at community partner sites throughout Orange County including Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Orange, and Mission Viejo, DrRHC enables easy access for low-income families. DrRHC addresses not only the physical causes of childhood obesity, but also its psychological and socioeconomic factors, through the following programs:

  • Health Club treats the most severe cases of obesity and “Failure to Thrive” by connecting each child with highly trained staff who address the root causes of obesity, rather than just the symptoms.

  • PC-FitTM (Parent-Child Feeding Interaction Therapy) treats dysfunctional feeding-dynamic issues within families through a live-coaching intervention. Over multiple sessions of simulated family meal time, staff coaches parent-child interactions to create a positive dynamic for the entire family.

  • Fit Club™ is a year-round after-school program that integrates physical activity, nutrition education, and healthy cooking classes for youth ages 4-18 who have continued to gain weight even while receiving treatment.

  • Educational Programs: DrRHC offers health and nutrition classes for parents of young children. Dr. Riba herself also conducts training for providers regarding weight management issues.

Through these programs, we serve nearly 3,000 children and families annually, helping children stop the increase of excessive weight gain, decrease their Body Mass Index (BMI), and increase physical fitness; improving family feeding dynamics; and teaching children, families, and providers about nutrition and health issues.

Vision:

Children and families feeding well, feeling well, living well.

Mission:

To promote healthy lifestyles in children, families, and communities by addressing medical, nutritional, social, economic and behavioral issues in a comprehensive, compassionate, and empowering manner.

GIVING CHILDREN HOPE (WWW.GCHOPE.ORG)

Giving Children Hope is privileged to work with diverse individuals and communities both locally and around the world, supplying projects that address and focus on the needs of children and serve the poor.

GCHope works to promote family sustainability, economic independence, and self-sufficiency so that children may grow in stable environments. GCHope also plays a role in the development and rehabilitation of under resourced clinics, hospitals, and orphanages. Our supplies mobilize organizations so that they can focus on implementation; this empowers communities to reach those caught in hopelessness and work towards self-sustainability.

GCHope is grassroots driven. While we work with many large organizations, the majority of our partners are working in a single community to enable that community to receive what it needs most. We connect indigenous community leaders in need of resources with grassroots efforts around the world to secure and deliver needed supplies.

GCHope is a green organization, taking supplies and equipment that would often end up in the land-fill and redeeming it for use in domestic free-clinics and developing countries around the world.

As a faith-based organization GCHope started to help get the Church outside of its doors into the community to BE the Church and serve those in need. Working with the diverse Christian community to enable them to be the hands and feet of Jesus is an important component to our work.

THE JOYFUL CHILD FOUNDATION

The Joyful Child Foundation - In Memory of Samantha Runnion, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse and abduction through programs that unite and uplift communities.   Samantha was a beautiful, bright, joyful little girl whose life was cut short as the youngest victim of the “summer of abductions” in July 2002.    The Joyful Child provides prevention education to children, parents, and teaching staff.  For the children, The Joyful Child has developed a K-12 safety empowerment program that supplements Physical Education and Health curricula, as well as ninety-minute personal safety workshops for children of all ages.  For adults, The Joyful Child provides one-hour presentations on Preventing Child Abduction and Recognizing Predatory Behaviors.  The goal of the organization is to bring personal safety education to every child in America.  Together, we can stop crimes against children.
